The context

GLO Marine was asked by our client to support with the conversion of a PSV, involving the addition of SPS class notation.

The vessel has been repurposed from offshore subsea activities to general renewables support, including the capability to host temporary living quarters for up to 40 personnel.

The major challenge for the team was is manage the vessel’s stability behaviour given the extra weight involved. This upgrade also involves changes to all the on-board systems, especially those relating to the safety of the personnel.

The Challenge

In converting offshore vessels to meet SPS Class notation, we face stringent challenges beyond typical offshore codes, especially in stability and lifesaving standards.

The vessel’s design intricately affects vent placements and flooding arrangements, demanding a collaborative approach between our mechanical and stability engineers. This synergy is crucial to optimise costs against the operational impacts, like extended docking times and potential cargo capacity adjustments.
