Job summary

The Senior Structural Engineer at Glo Marine will lead design and engineering efforts in vessel upgrades and conversions, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and good engineering practices. This role involves managing complex projects, executing detailed engineering calculations, layouts, drawings, and 3D modeling within set quality, budget, and timeline parameters.

The role demands a deep understanding of marine structures and the challenges of the marine environment, with a specific focus on innovation and problem-solving in vessel retrofitting and conversion.

Responsibilities:

  • Expert in the strength of materials, class society rules & regulations, and relevant industry codes.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling methodology in FE software, focusing on beam and plate elements.
  • Skilled in scantling calculation for global strength assessment across multiple ship types.
  • Expertise in using class society-developed software for structural calculations.
  • Adept at complex structural calculations including yielding assessment, buckling checks, and fatigue analysis.
  • Coordinating the development of internal calculation tools and spreadsheets tailored to departmental needs.
  • Proficient in drafting technical notes and reports for client and class society reviews.
  • Assisting the PM in project operations like estimating, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Autonomous in drafting and using software for drawings essential to the department.
  • Responsible for mentoring junior engineers and contributing to their development plans.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering, with the Master’s degree being an advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 years in naval design and a good understanding of advanced shipbuilding and design terminology.
  • At least 5 years working in an ISO 9001:2015 registered engineering design office, with a solid understanding of ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Extensive experience (minimum 3 years) with FEA software such as FEMAP, SESAM Genie, Nauticus Hull, Mars, Veristar, including at least 3 years in finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Proficiency in interpreting class rules and other structural codes like ISO, NS, EUROCODE, etc.
  • Fluent in English, with strong skills in both written and verbal communication, capable of effective communication with third parties (class, clients, suppliers).
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and independent project activities.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Basic Design within the field.
